Within the steel manufacturing and processing industries the certification of product is a key customer requirement thereby ensuring alloy uniformity, consistency and traceability.
One critical part in the steel manufacturing process is analysis of the slag. A well known phrase is “look after the slag and the steel will look after itself”. The simple to use benchtop X-Supreme8000 analyser allows the rapid analysis of the slag and can be situated in close proximity to the process, thereby allowing optimization and cost savings.
The X-Supreme8000 is a benchtop multi-element analyser typically measuring MgO, Al2O3, SiO2, S, CaO, Mno, Fe etc in steel slag samples. The sample is taken from the furnace, then ground and pressed into a disk. Results are available within minutes allowing maximisation of the furnace yield. It includes a 10 position sample carousel for multi-sample analysis, and an integrated PC for storage of results, etc
For steel processor’s, the system of choice for alloy composition is the PMI-MASTER PRO. This is a mobile Optical Emission system (OES), measuring a wide range of alloys including critical elements such as Carbon and Phosphorous as well as the standard alloying elements of Fe, Ni, Cr, Mn Mo etc. Measurement involves holding the pistol against the sample, waiting a few seconds and then the full chemical composition and alloy grade is displayed.
The X-MET5000 is a rugged handheld XRF analyser for the measurement of all key heavy alloying elements within steels. Analysis of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Nb and Mo can be made in seconds even in low concentrations making it an ideal mobile testing tool. The new X-MET5100 can also measure light elements such as Si and P from stainless and low alloy steels.
